Welcome to LEGEND 4.5 for Windows! Revised December 14, 2000 ----------------- INTRODUCTION Welcome to LEGEND 4.5 for Windows. Legend, a product created and produced by NMT Corporation, allows you to display and retrieve Cablecad data. We designed LEGEND with you, the user, in mind. LEGEND is a robust product, and all operations are fast and accurate, including rendering, printing, searching, and tracing. We know you'll enjoy using this product! LEGEND is a trademark of the NMT Corporation. ----------------- NOTES Legend includes a demonstration map and demonstration configuration files for you to practice with before you configure your own maps. Instructions for configuring the demonstration files are included in your "Getting Started with LEGEND" manual. Your LEGEND Help system also includes complete instructions for configuring LEGEND. To access Help: 1. From the "Help" menu in LEGEND, select "Contents." 2. Press the F1 key. 3. Click the "Help" button (marked with a question mark). At any time, you can uninstall the demonstration map and associated configuration files. To do this, delete the "Demomap" folder found in your LEGEND directory. Included with LEGEND is the LEGEND Registry Import / Export Utility (legreg.exe). Adminstrators can use this executable file to import or export Legend registry settings. This is useful when you want a group of Legend users to share the same configuration settings. Important! LegReg.exe is designed for use by Administrators. To use LegReg.exe: 1. Open a DOS window (from the Windows "Start" menu, select "Programs," and then select "MS-DOS Prompt"). 2. To change directories to the directory in which Legend is installed, type cd Note: Path is the directory in which Legend is installed. The default destination directory for Legend installs is C:\Program Files\Legend\ 3. To export Legend registry settings, type legreg /e Note: Path is the directory in which you want to export the file, and filename is the name of the exported file. Tip: You can also use the /s switch to create a silent execution. 4. To import Legend registry settings, type legreg /i Note: Path is the directory from which you want to import the file, and filename is the name of the file you’re importing. 5. To close the DOS window, type exit. ----------------- USING LEGEND FOR THE FIRST TIME If you've configured the demonstration map, you've followed the same steps that are used to configure your own maps. The locations of your configuration (support) files changes, but the configuration process remains the same. Complete instructions for installing and configuring LEGEND are found in your "Getting Started with LEGEND" manual. Your LEGEND Help system also includes complete instructions for configuring LEGEND. To access Help: 1. From the "Help" menu in LEGEND, select "Contents." 2. Press the F1 key. 3. Click and hold the scrollbar arrow buttons to produce a smooth scrolling effect. You can also use your mouse wheel if you have one. The wheel scrolls the map up and down, or if you hold down the wheel while turning it, the map scrolls side to side. 2. The default navigation command is "Zoom Out." When "Zoom Out" is selected and you move your mouse pointer over a map, your mouse pointer changes to a magnifying glass with a minus sign (-) in the center. To zoom out over a certain point in your map view, click your mouse on the point over which you want to center the zoomed-out view. 3. Other navigation tools available on the Navigation toolbar are: "Zoom In," "Zoom Window," "Zoom Center," "Zoom to Current Item" (also called "Locate"), "Zoom Polygon," "Zoom Fit" (also called "Zoom Full Map"), and "Previous / Next View." Select the desired button or menu option (from the "View" menu) to use that tool. 4. Click the right mouse button to display a popup menu that also lists navigation commands! 5. To select an item on a map, click the "Select Item" button (marked with a solid black arrow) and then click the item on the map you want to select. Once you've selected an item, you can use other tools such as "Attribute" and "Browse." 6. LEGEND's default configuration does NOT render widelines. If you want to render or print widelines, you must turn on widelines rendering. To do this, from the "Tools" menu, select "Options." The View Configuration dialog box opens. Click the "Render" tab, and then check the "Widelines" box. Be sure to also check the "Save" boxes at the bottom of the "Render" tab if you want to render widelines in your future LEGEND sessions as well. 7. LEGEND allows you to change a number of configuration options. To access configuration options, from the "Tools" menu, select "Options." The View Configuration dialog box opens. In this dialog box, you can change colors, monitor settings, rendering, blinking, and other related options. You can also apply these to only the currently open document, or save them to your current configuration. Your LEGEND Help system includes complete instructions for using LEGEND, and many more helpful tips as well. To access Help: 1. From the "Help" menu in LEGEND, select "Contents." 2.
